Monday February the 2nd Mr. Barry came to block and talked to us about giving feedback. He had the class do this activity where he sent John (a classmate) outside. While he that person was outside took the rest of the class and put us into four groups. One group was no feedback. The second group was all good feedback. The third was nothing but bad feedback and the fourth was the right kind of feedback. John came back inside, Mr. Barry had him sit in a seat with a bucket a tennis balls in front of him and a empty bucket behind him. Then John was told to take a tennis ball and throw it behind him and try and make it in the the empty bucket. He kept asking the first group how he was doing and they never did say anything. The next group was the nothing but good feedback group. The next group was nothing but bad feedback which was the group I was in. At one point John made a ball in the empty bucket and we still told him that he did a bad job. The last group was the right kind of feedback. They told him what he need to to do to make it in. It helped because he made it in.
I learned that its good to give positive feedback. Its also good to give feedback that will help that person suceed in the future or do better. Its also very important on how you phrase when giving the feedback. If you start it by saying I really like what you wrote but, blah blah blah. The person that you are talking to will stop listening and everything you have to say they wont hear. You could say I like what you wrote and here you need to tweak this. They will take into consideration what you have to say.
In the future when I am a teacher I will definitely use this approach. I feel that you will get more across when trying to help them. Even thought you are trying to help then when you use the word “but” it comes aross negative. I will try to use this in my relastionships now. So when I do become a teacher one day I will already have been doing it so it will come natural to me.
