Describe-
Last week I observed a inclusion reading class. During the 10 minute warm up a student asked a if he could ask a question about something that they had talked about the day before. The teacher said if its quick he could. The student asked a question about the holocaust. The teacher thenĀ said thats not a quick question, they would talk about it during free time. Well the student keep asking then so other students said they wanted to know also. The teacher then said “we are getting off task, im going to start singing if you don’t get back on task.” I could tell that this was a regular thing with her class, because judging from there response she cant sing and they don’t like it when she does. The teacher sang for about 20 seconds, they students complained then they got back on task.
Analyze-
She reason that she start to sing was because they were getting of task and thats her way of getting them back on task.
Reflection-
If you have build a kind of rapport with your students like she has then I think this a great idea. To either sing or play a song that will get there attentoin back to what you are doing. I will try not to have them get off task in the first place though. But I do like the idea of doing something fun like this to bring them back then getting mad. This would be my first choice and if they didnt work then you would have to get mad. But I hope that I never get that point.
